Tsz Yeung Samson overall performance was unsatisfactory in last three weeks. He is a cheerful person and motivated learner. He was active to practice various nursing procedures (aseptic technique and intravenous drug administration) in supervisory skills laboratory in school and also in ward. He was very weak in planning his nursing care and prioritizes his nursing care according to his patient’s need. He was very poor in time management even though he carried out total patient care for two patients only. He performed all his nursing care in a very slow pace manner even though he assigned to take care the same patients (Bed 12,13) in last two week clinical practicum. He failed to demonstrate problem-solving behavior and critical thinking when he provided nursing care to his patients. He was unable to work independently. He required frequent prompting and assisting with constantly cue given by clinical instructor and 2nd assessor. He could not organize his nursing care in systematic ways with good coordination manner which could affect his effectiveness and efficiency of nursing care. He needs frequent probing and advice from clinical instructor and teammates when he was doing most of nursing procedures and daily routine. He was unable to perform comprehensive nursing assessment: because he kept missing important details about patient’s condition while performing risk of fall assessment on his patient and carried out comprehensive post operative care. His performance in aseptic technique was unsatisfactory due to repeated mistake, such as, contamination dressing materials and patient’s wound. In addition, he failed in AOM as his carelessness in administration medication and forgot to documentation after drug administration.
Future direction: he is advised to further fine-tone his skills in basic and advanced nursing skills in order to increase his confidence working in clinical area and maintain patient safety in future. He needs to set priority for his nursing care and procedures. He must improve his communication skill by providing education to patients.

The credibility of Hong Kong newspapers
Recently, several surveys reveal that many Hongkongers do not believe what they read in the local newspapers. It is because they doubt the professional conduct and ethics of reporters. Although the credibility of local newspapers is not high, I think that the Government should not monitor the media strictly.
In fact, the quality and credibility of newspapers become poor as they have to face some problems below.
There are a lot of local newspapers and magazines in HK, the competition among them is very keen. Therefore, some reporters exaggerate the fact of the news. It can attract more readers as the general education level of Hongkongers is not high. As a result, the newspapers can sell better. At the same time, the news from both newspapers and magazines becomes unreliable.
By means of IT, the reporters receive lots of news in a short moment. However, they may not have enough time or ability to confirm whether the news is accurate or not. Also, the workload of reporters is extremely heavy and they may report wrongly.
In order to solve the above problems, the quality of reporters has to be improved. The employer of local newspapers should provide training course for the new reporters who do not report the news or articles properly.
The public could play the role in monitoring the local newspapers. We can complain to the related government department or the editor about the irresponsible reports. On the other hand, the related staff of government section or newspapers should handle the complaints carefully and make improvement if necessary.
Another effective way to improve the credibility of newspapers is not to buy the newspapers that have lots of irresponsible reports. Unfortunately, many Hongkongers would not do this as they have read those newspapers for long.
In short, reporters should have the freedom of press, but they have to monitor themselves and improve the quality of the newspapers. And, I hope that the readers will only like to read the local newspapers that report the news accurately and ethically in the future.

Have you forgotten the old Hong Kong?
Hong Kong is a cosmopolitan city. We can see the skyscrapers in business district and modern infrastructure all around the city. Also, there are many historical sites and interesting backstreets in HK. They show a part of Hong Kong’s past within the city centre.
Somebody suggested renovating the historical buildings and backstreets in areas such as Wan Chai and Sheung Wan. In fact, the government have already done something to preserve them. For instance, Old Wan Chai Post Office and Western Market in Sheung Wan are the declared monuments. They are protected by law. Besides, the government have planned to renovate some historical buildings and change them to be museums or shopping malls without affecting the look outside. However, I think the government could do more.
Tourism industry could have benefits if the historical buildings and interesting backstreets are reserved. It is because tourists like to visit the places that can reflect the history of HK. Moreover, they like to sightsee special backstreets. Traditional Chinese foods like shark’s fins and dried fish are sold there. They can also see the craftsmen working on the pavement and barbers cutting hair in the street.
Another advantage in preserving historical sites and special backstreets is that young people in HK can know more about old HK. Citizens should know the history of the place they live and these historical sites. The buildings and old streets are the best learning materials for us to study HK history. Those historical landmarks are better than the words in history books.
Historical buildings could make our cosmopolitan city special. A city that only possesses tall buildings with shiny glasses is monotonous. No people want to live in such city for long. Historical buildings are actually art works in a city and it gives life to a city. Therefore, it is necessary to preserve them.
In my opinion, historical sites and special backstreets should not be removed because of commercial reasons as they could not be rebuilt easily. If we only look up to money and look down on history, we will regret surely in the future.
